(France)- The Eiffel tower is 120 years old this year! To celebrate, Paris City Hall (Hôtel de Ville de Paris) is paying tribute to its creator through the "Gustave Eiffel, le magicien du fer" exhibition, inviting you through August 29 to take a new look at the beauty, power and poetry of the works of art which made the great French engineer famous, and whose work changed the skyline of Paris.

XXXThe event is arranged in three stages: Eiffel the individual, Eiffel the builder and Eiffel the scientist. First you can discover the man in a more personal way, from his childhood in Dijon to his youth in Paris. The exhibition then focuses on the architect’s achievements. Finally, you can learn about all the scientific research carried out by Eiffel from the 1890s onwards, particularly in the field of aeronautics.

XXXThe Eiffel tower was the triumph of the Universal Exhibition in 1889 but Gustave Eiffel had built many metal buildings prior to that. His constructions can be found in Hungary, Vietnam, Portugal as well as numerous French regions. The Statue of Liberty’s metal shell is also his work. The Statue was built in Paris and then transported to New York, where it was reassembled at the entrance to the city. Eiffel also designed the structural frame for Bon Marché (famous department store in Paris), and the locks of the Panama canal. (from paris.fr and new-paris-ile-de-france.co.uk).
